This article details steps on completing the installation of Access Manager 1.3 from the original ISO image. The ISO image is unique in that you need to configure the OS as well as the application. I allows you to manually configure the system, rather than a pre-configured VMWare, HyperV virtual machine.
Note: before proceeding you should have completed, 'How to Create a VM for Access Manager 1.3 ISO' first, this creates a virtual machine required for the ISO to run effectively.
Step 1: Choose Graphical Install
With the newly created VM started you should see the Nervepoint installation menu, from here choose Graphical Install, the Install option does the same but lacks any GUI.
Step 2: Language Settings
The initial steps require you to configure the language, location and keyboard mapping to use, please choose your country and location as appropriate.
Step 3: Network Settings
The next step requires you to set the hostname for the system and the domain name, this will be the name of the server and how users will access this machine. In my example I have chosen:
- Hostname: Accessmanager
- Domain name: accessmanger.local
Step 4: Partition Disks
The next step requires partitioning of the 32 GB of disk space assigned to this VM. The simplest method is to use the default settings of Guided - use entire disk option.
Hitting Continue with ask you to choose the disk to partition, in most cases you should only have one to choose from and if you followed the previous article this will be around 32 GB in size.
Pressing Continue then select Finish partitioning and write changes to disk. You will notice that the whole disk is being used for all your files, if you require better structure then you can choose manual parititioning and configure your own splits, our recommendation for seperate partitions is:
- /root 8G
- /swap 4G
- /var 20G
Step 5: Package Manager
The final steps require setting up of the package manager, this is required to get Debian operating system updates, it is recommend you select Yes to use a Network Mirror and choose a mirror in your country as close to you as possible.
If you need to use a proxy to access this server then you can provide these settings on the next step.
Step 6: Restarting VM
The wizard will now take the above settings and create and configure the operating system and also install Access manager 1.3. The VM will eventually reboot and you should remove the Access Manager 1.3 ISO from the CD/DVD by navigating to Storage->Settings again.
Step 7: Root Password
With the ISO removed the VM will start up and you will be presented with the new VM Centre menu dialog, here you need to set the password for the root account in order to log into VM Centre. The password rules allowed for the root password are displayed on the right. It is crucial that you do not lose the root user credentials as it is needed to log into VM Centre.
VM Centre
VM Centre is a powerful system which allows you to manage the underlying operating system and services running. Not only can you access the system via a terminal interface but can monitor system resources, update system packages, view log files and configure network settings.
Step 8: Connecting to the Access Manager Server
Having successfully logged into VM Centre you can locate your server URL/IP by clicking the network icon on the left menu. This information is also displayed in the top menu.
Navigating to this URL/IP you will be presented with the Access Manager Setup page. Here you will begin to configure the system, after first agreeing to the license agreement you will need to set a password the for admin account.
The wizard will then guide you through the rest of the setup process.
