This article covers the first step in installing Nervepoint Access Manager from the ISO file. The ISO is a CD image containing the application and underlying operating system which means you can install the ISO on anything, a virtual server such as VMWare ESXi, Microsoft HyperV and even a hardware server. This article uses Oracle VirtualBox which is a free desktop virtual machine player, it is recommended that any installation for production use should be installed on a fully fledged dedicated virtual server such as VMWare ESXi or Microsoft ESXi.
Step 1: Create New VM
From your virtual machine player/server interface create a new virtual machine, since this ISO contains a Debian operating system upon which Access Manager runs, you will need to set the following operating system settings:
- Type: Linux
- Version: Debian 64
Step 2: Memory, vCPU & HDD Settings
Typically the next step in creating a new virtual machine is setting the system memory and vCPUs. This is variable but as recommendation for a medium-sized business of around 1000 users following settings should be sufficient:
- Memory: 1GB
- vCPU: 1
The default HDD format should suffice, in virtualbox this is a VDI format, the recommended size is:
- HDD size: 32GB
For the article I have chosen Dynamic allocation but again this is entirely up to you.
Step 3: Load ISO
With all the settings complete and the new virtual machine saved, the final step is to load the virtual CD/DVD player with the ISO image which will run upon starting the vitual machine.
Navigate to Storage Settings, this will be located in different places depending on the virtual player you are using but the premise is the same, to preload the CD/DVD with the ISO. Insert the Access Manager ISO into the CD/DVD drive.
Step 4: Start VM
With all settings configured and the ISO loaded into the CD/DVD drive it is time to start the VM. If everything has been created successfully you should see the Access Manager Installation Menu below.
